Inshorts – News in 60 words provides a streamlined way to stay informed by delivering national and international news stories, each condensed into 60 words or less. Users can quickly browse these concise summaries to grasp the essential facts on various topics, then tap to access the full original article if more detail is desired. This app focuses on presenting only facts, aiming to eliminate opinions and additional noise from the news consumption experience, making it useful for keeping up with current affairs or preparing for competitive exams. The content is available in both English and Hindi.
Personalized and Categorized News
The app offers a My Feed feature that delivers short, crisp, and personalized news updates tailored to a user’s interests. Beyond a personalized feed, Inshorts allows users to explore a wide variety of news categories, including India, politics, entertainment, business, technology, startups, world, sports, and lifestyle. The news presented across these categories is sourced from multiple trusted providers.
Specialized Feeds and Insights
For those interested in financial markets, a dedicated Finance Feed provides the latest business news, live stock prices, and market insights such as top gainers, losers, and company updates. Users can also build their own watchlist for personalized tracking. Additionally, the app includes Insights, which are quick explainers designed to add background and relevance to significant stories, simplifying complex topics into easy-to-read, bite-sized summaries. Cricket enthusiasts can also follow Live Cricket Updates and Scores, receiving instant coverage of match scores, highlights, and related news.
Multimedia Updates
To cater to different consumption preferences, Inshorts incorporates Video Shorts. These are video news updates on trending topics, offering a visual-first approach to staying informed, particularly when on the go.
Saving and Sharing
Users have the ability to bookmark stories they wish to read later. These saved stories can be accessed anytime, even without an internet connection, providing offline reading capability. The app also facilitates instant sharing of news summaries and full stories across various platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and Email.
Permissions and Privacy
Inshorts requires access to a device’s Photos/Media Files. This permission is necessary for the app to save representational images, ensuring a consistent user experience even when offline, and to include images along with text when a news summary is shared. The developer states that user privacy is critical and the app does not use photos, videos, or other media files for any other purpose, nor does it make calls, send messages, or save and distribute device information.
